Most people have a child, some plant a tree and a few write a book. Some others juggle on a monocycle, sing on the street, even if nobody listens, or stand up in front of a crowd to speak their deepest flaws just to make them laugh. Why do they do this?
We all want to leave a mark of our time on earth, either for instinctive survival, fear of being forgotten or many other reasons that open an interesting debate. My conclusion after this festival is that some people live to give a message. Sensitive humans who feel full when they express. They throb inside and the city feels it. Art runs down the streets, vibrating, sparkling life and painting everyone’s faces.
Probably, if they stoped shaking, they’d explode. “Do you really make a living out of this?” The thing is, what else would you rather live for?
Cheers to the weird. The brave ones. Those who defy the norm to create more worlds within this world. Try as the may, they cant escape it. They have something to say. Cheers to this beautiful city that brings them together. City of witches, cold wind and artistic spirits that won’t die.
Cheers to the Fringe.
At the end of a show, while people were cheering and clapping, the bagpiper said “Thank you. Being a street artist when no one listens is the worst job in the world. But moments like this is what we live for.”
So cheer to us, the people. The audience that dances, laughs and then go for drinks. We keep this festival alive. So if you haven’t already, go to the Fringe in Edinburgh. You won’t regret it.
