LONDON IS HUGE

In London, it takes a pretty long time to get from A-B and back, it´s a sobering truth we have to face. Transport links are great, but the city is huge. It’s worth taking some time properly researching where you want to stay, how connected it is – especially after the tube closes. Recommend looking up whether you´re on a night tube line, or not. Also account for whether you want to budget for transport costs or spend more on your accommodation to be closer to the action.

Boring stuff aside, walk as much as possible.

The beauty of the city is all in the adventure. All the time spent with your eyes up, your feet pounding the pavements and your imagination  running, is what will make your stay unforgettable. There is so much going on in this cultural crossroads it´s worth spending your journey time outside the tube.

MARKETS ARE EVERYTHING

There are so many and they are all full of anything you could think of from vintage clothes, jewellery and records, to environmentally friendly artisan goods. Give yourself the better part of a day to get round and enjoy them all.

Portobello - Saturday

Camden - Everyday

Columbia Road Flower Market - Sunday

Brick Lane Market - Saturday

Foodtrucks and stalls rule the city.

There are foodtrucks and mini food markets spread across the city, all through the week. The odd offerings, smells, and insta-like prep is overwhelming. Golden rule: when in doubt, falafel.

We regularly ate at: Shoreditch, Spitalfields, South Bank, Portobello.

TEA IN THE PARK| PUBS IN THE DARK

Grab some drinks and snacks from the shop and head to a park, London is full of beautiful urban greenery.. (Obvious but necessary to note, the price of drinks in bars vs. drinks in shops does not correlate to the amount of fun you’ll have – the parks are buzzing in the summer so you may as well join in).

When you do want to head inside, you won’t be hard pushed to find a place. Our fav: Boxpark, Shoreditch. But there are bars lining the streets of London, most of which you’ll find overflowing come 6pm. It’s a vibe, and you have to get in it.

Free Festivals

Summer in this city, means random, free festivals popping up all over the place. We found ourselves in the middle of Portobello Summer Festival, dancing all day-long to some really good and well-known musician. After all, they love going back home and playing for their longest supporters.

GET PHYSICAL

Swim in Hyde Park. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not the Med, and you might not be fully willing to submerge your head. But, London gets really hot and sticky and any release from that is welcome in my eyes. There are many Lidos dotted around the city, most of which have websites with all their info. I didn’t get to all of them, but if I could go back I’d definitely try out Hampstead Heath – its more of a pond in a countryside park, than a lido, but seems like a dreamy escape from the London throb. (Serpentine lido: If you have a student card you’ll get a decent discount - £3.80.)

 Yogis

If you’re in the city for an extended period of time – check out TriYoga. There are six studios across London, all of which provide great classes and a blissfully calm environment from the bustle of the hectic streets. The introductory month offer is £54.
